Tell us a little bit about yourself? Where did you grow up? What did you want to be as a child? What kind of a child were you? Naughty, restless or shy?

I grew up in Meerut (Uttar Pradesh). As a child, I wanted to be an army officer. I was very shy and quiet. My teachers used to praise me for that.

Cool, what are the things/qualities that you love about yourself?

I feel good about my calm and humble nature.

Who is your idol in life? Which cricketer you admired as a youngster?

Idol, no one I guess. I admired almost every Indian cricketer; because there is always something to learn from everyone.

Who are your two favorite people outside sporting world?

My mummy and papa. Do I really have to put only two people? I am close to my entire family and they are all my favorite.

Do you recall an exact moment or time, when did you start to think about getting into Team India?

Long time back.. I think it was around the time when I started playing cricket in 2003-04.

Who has been the biggest motivation for your as a sportsperson?

Sachin Tendulkar. Guess he has been a motivation for an entire generation of sportsperson and cricketers especially.

How do you feel about all the fame that has come your way as a sport star? If not a cricket player – what would you be?

It feels good when people start to know you and praise for your good work. If not cricket what else — actually I didn’t think about anything else.. but when I was young, around 10 yrs old I wanted to join army but cricket was my passion from childhood.

What is your favorite pass time?

I spend my time playing games on PS3 or iPad.

What do you attribute your success to?

It would not have been possible without love and support of my family, friends, coach and well wishers.

Are you a God fearing person?

Yes.

Who are your buddies on Indian Cricket Team? What all do you do to stay fit? Do you follow any special diet? Do you do any meditation to keep yourself focused?

There no special buddies. Everyone supports each other. To stay fit, I do gym on regular basis. I avoid fat and oily food. Meditation, not really. I have done it once or twice.

Which is your fondest memory till date?

When I got selected for Team India.

How do you keep in touch with family, friends?

Mostly phone and BBM.

What do you like best about being a sportsperson? What is your suggestion for those who want to pursue a career in cricket or competitive sports?

You get to visit different places and people admire you. For those who want to pursue sports as a career – keep working hard and there is no shortcut to success.

How important do you think are studies? Do you think – sports like Arts, Humanities, sciences and commerce should be a stream at school level.

It is very important for self confidence. Sports as a stream will do a lot of good.
